Candidates must achieve a total of ten units for a full NVQ. Who is the course for?The NVQ Level 2 in Team Leading is for people working in roles where they have a responsibility for the work of others as they lead a team.How will this course benefit my business and staff?
The NVQ Level 2 in Team Leading will enable first line and middle managers to provide effective leadership to achieve team work objectives, and thereby increase your business’s productivity. This course provides individuals with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a career in leadership at level 2.
How is the course structured?
To achieve the full award, learners must be assessed for four mandatory units plus two optional units, making a total of six units. For each unit, we offer one days training. The training is optional: you can attend any or none of the days, according to your business needs. Assessment is required to complete the qualification, with the following requirements for learners:
- 3 hours induction in your workplace
- 3 hours introduction in your workplace
- 15 hours assessment in your workplace
- Portfolio building in your workplace
Mandatory Units are:
Managing Personal Development; Team Leaders; Developing Productive Relationships; and Health and Safety. Optional units for which we provide training are: Identify and Create Learning Opportunities, and Monitoring and Evaluation. In discussion with your assessor, you may wish to select other optional units which are more appropriate for your work role, for which you will not require training.
How and where will the course be delivered?
For groups of 4 or more, training can be delivered in your workplace. Training is also delivered on scheduled dates at Waterfront Studios, 1 Dock Road London E16 1AH How long does it take to complete the course? To complete the full NVQ, including assessment, it takes approximately 6 months. Training is usually scheduled one day a month. How much does the course cost? It is free for companies who satisfy the eligibility requirements for Train to Gain funding. For those who do not, the commercial cost of the course is £1200. Are there any discounts or financial incentives for my business?
If your organisation has fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees you may be eligible for a contribution to wage costs incurred when releasing staff for training during normal working hours. The contribution is only available for employees who achieve their first full Level 2 and/or approved Basic Skills qualifications. The contribution will only be paid for employees that achieve the above qualifications. The contribution is £5 per hour or actual hourly wage depending on employer choice. This contribution will be available up to a maximum of 70 hours.

This qualification will recognise your current achievement and build upon your knowledge base in care environments. This will also assist you in bridging the theory practice gap. Aim of this course:
Mandatory topics include: • Promoting the rights, responsibilities, equality and diversity of people • Developing ones own knowledge and practice • Assessment of need and meeting client requirements • Joint working Examples of optional units include: • Managing and developing teams • Selecting personnel for requirements • Managing financial resources • Promoting the interest of client groups and contribute to physical and emotional environments for group care
How will I learn? There will be a mixture of formal taught sessions and workshops, as well as individual and group tutorials. Students are required to study approximately 6 - 10 hours per week outside of the workshop sessions.

What are the entry requirements? Students would benefit from having NVQ level 3 qualifications in care or management. Mature students will be judged on merit via interview with the programme leader. You will need to be working in a care setting with a degree of responsibility and autonomy in your role and be able to acquire the responsibility for some management responsibilities to complete some units. All applicants will be interviewed How long does the programme last? This is a part time programme over 12 months. Students will study 8 units, 4 mandatory and 4 optional.
How will I be assessed? The assessment board is Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR). You will complete 8 units over the twelve month period. Assessment will be via portfolio assessment and naturalistic observations of practice by a vocationally competent assessor.
What if I need support? One Spare Chair provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. We will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials.
What can I do with this qualification? Further Study: This course offers APL opportunities to the Registered Manager (Adult) Award; you will be required to be in a management or supervisory position to achieve the Registered Manager Award. A Career: This programme progresses from NVQ 3 in Care. Students completing this level 4 course will be qualified to take supervisory responsibilities within a range of care settings which provides services for vulnerable adults.
