This qualification will recognise your current achievement and build upon your knowledge base in care environments. This will also assist you in bridging the theory practice gap. Aim of this course:
Mandatory topics include: • Promoting the rights, responsibilities, equality and diversity of people • Developing ones own knowledge and practice • Assessment of need and meeting client requirements • Joint working Examples of optional units include: • Managing and developing teams • Selecting personnel for requirements • Managing financial resources • Promoting the interest of client groups and contribute to physical and emotional environments for group care
How will I learn? There will be a mixture of formal taught sessions and workshops, as well as individual and group tutorials. Students are required to study approximately 6 - 10 hours per week outside of the workshop sessions.

What are the entry requirements? Students would benefit from having NVQ level 3 qualifications in care or management. Mature students will be judged on merit via interview with the programme leader. You will need to be working in a care setting with a degree of responsibility and autonomy in your role and be able to acquire the responsibility for some management responsibilities to complete some units. All applicants will be interviewed How long does the programme last? This is a part time programme over 12 months. Students will study 8 units, 4 mandatory and 4 optional.
How will I be assessed? The assessment board is Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR). You will complete 8 units over the twelve month period. Assessment will be via portfolio assessment and naturalistic observations of practice by a vocationally competent assessor.
What if I need support? One Spare Chair provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. We will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials.
What can I do with this qualification? Further Study: This course offers APL opportunities to the Registered Manager (Adult) Award; you will be required to be in a management or supervisory position to achieve the Registered Manager Award. A Career: This programme progresses from NVQ 3 in Care. Students completing this level 4 course will be qualified to take supervisory responsibilities within a range of care settings which provides services for vulnerable adults.
